As promised, here is the second post that deals entirely with DEFCON 18 plans. I don’t know if I’ll be following them closely or not. As stated in the last post, I kind of suck at keeping schedules at DEFCON. There’s so much stuff to do and I either get ADD and try to do everything or I follow Rain around for most of the con and will keep Twitter (@tottenkoph) updated no matter what. But this is what I’m planning so far…
I should be touching down in LAS around 1400 PDT. If there is anyone who is getting in around the same time, my friends and I would be more than happy to share a taxi or (if there are enough people) get a limo. I have no plans whatsoever between then and the Summit. I highly recommend people attend. For those of you who don’t know what the Summit is, it’s an opportunity to raise money for the EFF. The Mini Bosses and Dual Core will both be performing there this year (for more information click here) . After that? Probably mass consumption of beverages.
Friday, I would like to go to the 1000 talk on “How to Get Your FBI File…” by Marcia Hoffman, but getting up that early would be really ambitious of me and I don’t think it will happen. What’s most likely going to happen is that I’ll procure bacon and caffeine and generally kill time with Rain until her talk at 1200 on “Build a Lie Detector/Beat a Lie Detector”. Probably attend her Q&A and generally tool around/try not to throw up between then and 1600. I’ll be MIA from 1500-1600 because the speaker goons (and possibly Nikita) will deal unspeakable bodily harm to me if I am not in the green room during that time. My talk is at 1600, followed by the Q&A session (during which I will try my hardest not to rant about how much I hate a certain evil telecommunications company and love the Graffiti Research Lab). But I may be drunk. So there will be no promises…. Kill time until 1930 when Zoz is talking about “Pwned By the Owner: What Happens When You Steal a Hacker’s Computer”.
I will be attending random events Friday night as well as getting Jayson Street (@jaysonstreet on Twitter) to sign my copy of his book. Repeat mass consumption of beverages.
Saturday is completely up in there air, expect 1400 is Shawn Moyer’s (@shawnmoyer) talk on “Wardriving the Smart Grid: Practical Approaches to Attacking Utility Packet Radios”. At 1500, is James Arlen’s (@myrcurial) talk on “SCADA and ICS for Security Experts: How to Avoid Cyberdouchery”. 1600 is Jayson E. Street’s talk “Deceiving the Heavens to Cross the Sea: Using the 36 stratagems for Social Engineering”.
Repeat consumption of beverages as well as going to 10,000 Cent Pyramid at 2200 on Saturday night.
Flight leaves at 1100 on Sunday for some god awful reason and the taxi/limo share is open to anyone who needs a ride to LAS.

So, the past month or two has been crazy. Just wanted to hop on over here while I still had a minute or two of free time while drinking some coffee to let you know what is going on.We’ll start off with the projects. The daily projects have still been going on (some of them are even starting earlier than others so that they’ll be ready by the completion date that I set for them). Due to some technical difficulties (my desktop and laptop both needed to be reformatted) as well as time constraints from work, I have been unable to find the time to sit down and edit/upload all the pictures of the projects. I have been working on getting them done and the blog posts for each week should be up before (if not shortly after) DEFCON.
Speaking of DEFCON, I leave for DEFCON 18 in about fifteen days. For those of you who haven’t heard, my talk on “VirGraf101: Introduction to Virtual Graffiti” got accepted this year and I’ll be speaking on Friday at 1600. I’ll post a second blog with my best-guess itinerary for the show this year. Chances are that I won’t follow my own schedule, but I will try my best and you can always follow me on Twitter (@tottenkoph). I will have the slides that I’m using during the presentation up on tottenkoph.com Thursday night/Friday morning so that those of you unable to attend can see them and those who are attending can see them beforehand and prepare to throw your best questions at me (well, your second-best questions. Don’t be an over-achiever).
Another reason why the blog hasn’t been updated recently is that Rain and I just became the owners of neuronumerous.com It is completely empty right now, but we are working on making a place for neurohackers that not only has a collection of neurohacking presentations, but also a list of links and various other bits for the budding neurophyte (think of something similar to BoingBoing or Mind Hacks).
That’s all for now, kids. I need to go get more coffee and stare at the screen for another 6.5 hours.
