Hey all,
While planning hte next… oh, 7 weeks worth of projects, I realized that this will greatly increse the amount of crap I have around. So, unless something is marked “Wanted” or “Promised”, I’m giving away everything I make. If you see something you want, email/dm/message me and let me know and if no one has asked before you, then it’s yours.
Everything from Week 1 (clothes/accessories) is spoken for and this week is papercraft, so (unless you *really* want paper) this will all start this upcoming Monday. I will send it to you absolutely free, but if you want to show your appreciation I will accept a donation or (even better) a picture of you enjoying the hell out of your shiny new free thing.
xoxo,
Tottie

Ok. So. I’m not sure if these are shiny or douche-y. I’m leaning more toward the latter. But I could be wrong. Anyways! The second pair of sunglasses will be cute-sy.
Materials:
Sunglasses (found them in closet)
Self-stick rhinestones ($1.78/packet)
Dry erase marker (found)

Use dry erase marker to make dots where you want your rhinestones to go
Carefully place rhinestones. I say this because partway through, I erased some of the little dots I made.
Wear them and bathe in the (cuteness/douchery).

But I’m still grumbly because I can’t find any damn “hatah blockahs”. How can I make them light up if I don’t have them? How will my favorite pretentious git go on about her days in .ca without back-lit hatah blockahs?! *sigh* So, instead I give you a last minute POV wristband. I’ll make a prettier one at some other point in time.
Materials:
Wristband ($1, Target)
Scotch Velcro fasteners ($4, Target)
Adafruit MiniPOV3 Kit ($17.50, Adafruit.com)
Gather your materials
Build the miniPOV3 (I wasn’t going to take pics of that step-by-step. Sorry.) and then program it.
Put velcro on the back of the miniPOV3 and the other half on the wristband.
Wear it!

This is the second (and last) post that I owe for the day. I saw these little hats are coming back, but I don’t see the point in buying one. So for half the price, I got some materials and made my own!
Materials:
Cardboard box (small) in shape of choice ($1, Michael’s)
1/4 yd tulle in your choice of color (varies)
Elmer’s glue ($1)
Sequins ($2.50 at Joann Fabrics)
Hot glue gun
Hair clip or head band (whichever you want to affix the finished product to)
Paint in color of choice (varies)
Paintbrush
Take the top of the box and paint it
Once that is dry, do a second coat.
Dab a little bit of glue on the bottom of a sequin and then place it on the hat.
Eventually (it will seem like forever, believe me), it will look something similar to this
Add your tulle to the bottom of it using the hot glue gun
And then affix it to your hair accessory of choice. That’s it. (I lost my hair accessory of choice, so that’s why I’m holding it)

No, I am not promoting eating disorders. I promised Tyger during DEFCON 17 that if she were to model my motion sickness hat/glasses, I would make her a “I throw up for science” shirt. And then afterward I got busy (read as: forgot). So, what better second project for this thing during the two week “DIY Clothes/Accessories” theme?
Materials:
Shirt ($3 at Michael’s or JoAnn Fabrics)
Sewing hoop (varies depending on size)
Panty hose
Fabric marker in color of your choosing
An image that is simple to trace
Start off by cutting the top and toes part of the pantyhose and stretching it across the hoop (easier said than done unless you get big honking pantyhose).
Lay the hoop so that the hose is touching the image and trace with a permanent marker.
Mine looked like this when I finished tracing (the foot is in the upper corner because I couldn’t get it to fit inside the hoop the way it was.
Lay the hoop on top of the shirt where you want your image to be (this is the time to get out that fabric marker).
Start tracing. I found that it’s easiest if you just draw little dots first. Once you’re done with the dots, connect them. You should be finished unless you want to get all fancy and embellish it. It takes a little while for the marker to dry, so be careful. Don’t wash it for at least 48 hours.

So. I was told at the beginning of NOTACON 7 that shardy and pretentious git had a present for me. I was touched and a little frightened. Right before I went in with ne0nra1n to give our speech, they both approached me with this:

I wore it during the speech as well as at lunch afterwards and have decided that it is my official speaking hat. Das Tottenhat, if you will. You see, I posted on twitter at some point last year about how people are making necklaces that are gold and topped with I think crystals or fake bling that spells out their twitter names. I thought it was the funniest and gaudiest thing I have ever heard of and evidently pretentious git took it upon herself to make me a hat with shardy.
I don’t know if you can tell, but the hat started it’s life out as an Easter basket.
They then cut out the bottom of the hat and removed the handle and resewed it at the bottom. I can’t fit it under my chin, but I can put my ponytail through it so it is still an epic win. They then inserted 6 white LEDs with 6 coin cell batteries (affixed with tape and safety pins) under the pink felt beneath each pompom.
Then they made a tag with my twitter handle using a laser.
And put pink LEDs behind it on either end.
I absolutely love this hat and even though I didn’t make it myself, I’m using this as my opportunity to announce that this is the first of 365 posts. Every day I will make, hack, or craft something and then post information and pics about it here. The hat will be seen at a later date because I plan on adding an arduino to the inside of it and blink my handle in morse code and wear it at my next (and all subsequent) public gathering (whether it be DEFCON or Maker Faire). How sexy would that be?

Ok, since I’m kinda lazy and want to make this easy I’m going to just bullet point this.
So. It’s also time for a hint towards the little announcement. Although it doesn’t technically count for the next post (coming up later tonight), there will be daily updates and there will eventually be something for everybody. Until then…
<3,
Tottie
